- Complex carbs contain a variety of nutrients and have a lower to moderate glycemic index - which is a measure of carbohydrates effects on your blood sugar levels. Higher fiber foods promote a slower digestion process which is actually healthier for your body. Some foods with complex carbs include most fruits and vegetables, and whole grains.

- Simple carbs contain low nutrients and high glycemic index. These foods are quick to digest and makes blood sugar levels soar - then fall quickly. Some foods with simple carbs include bananas, potatoes, white break and treats with high sugar content.
