How Low Can You Go On A No Carb Diet?

A "no carb" diet should really be called the "No to carbs" diet. It is very hard not to eat foods with some amount of carbs in them. Plus, you need to have some carbs in your diet to stay healthy - you just need to make sure you're not getting too many. That's where a low carb diet comes in. Low carb diets help you cut back on the amount of carbs by the kinds of foods you are allowed to eat.

The only time a complete "no carb" diet should be used is if you are a serious bodybuilder. They go on an absolutely "no carb" diet right before a bodybuilding competition. After, they resume whatever diet plan they were previously on.

A low carb diet will give you the results you want - and maybe need - in a shorter period of time. You learn to cut the amount of carbs you eat way down - and still lose weight and retain your energy levels. There are many benefits to trying a low carb diet:

  • Gain control of your hunger. A low carb diet changes how your body responds to insulin levels which allows you to feel less hungry and less likely to cheat.
  • Kick bad habits. Since you are only allowed foods with low carbs in your diet, you have to give up those "bad" foods you used to eat. After you reach your goal weight, you've kicked the bad food habit and developed healthier eating habits.

When you're ready to start a low carb diet, you need to think ahead - when you sit down and plan your approach and what it will involve - you're increasing your chance of success. There are some steps you can take to ensure you get off to a great start:

Do your homework - there is so much information out there about low carb diets - making sure you choose the right plan is important. Get online and read up on what plans are available and how they have worked for other people.

Prepare yourself mentally - you may not realize how hard it could get to almost totally change your eating habits. You have to make sure you are strong enough - mentally - to handle these changes until you get used to them.

Preplan your menu - with a list of the foods you will be allowed to eat on the low carb diet - you can think about food combinations and dishes you can make in order to get the most variety. Eating the same foods, day after day, can make you give up before you reach your goal.

Don't forget your exercise - adding an exercise routine will also help keep your energy level up - and help you see results that much faster. If you don't get some form of physical activity, you will obviously lose the weight with your diet - but your body won't be tone and firmer. You can possibly cut down on the "sag" with a few simple exercises.

Remember, low carb is better than no carb. You want to stay as healthy as possible while you lose weight. Please consult with your doctor before you begin any type of weight-loss program.
